Announcing the hiring of Associate Dean, Education

Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to announce that Dr. Karsten Mündel has been appointed as Associate Dean, Education for the College of Social Science and Humanities for a three-year term.
The Associate Dean, Education provides leadership in educational program development and implementation, including cross-faculty multidisciplinary initiatives, for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Associate Dean, Education - Dr. Karsten Mündel
Karsten Mündel has worked at the University of Alberta since 2004. He is currently Professor of Global and Development Studies in the department of Social Science at Augustana Campus. With a PhD in Adult Education and Community Development, his research and teaching has been multidisciplinary throughout his career. Karsten currently also serves as Provost Fellow, Experiential and Work-Integrated Learning. Most of his teaching has involved one form of experiential pedagogy or another and has often blended teaching and research in rural Alberta, Mexico and Cuba.
Karsten also has significant administrative experience serving as Director of Augustana’s Experiential Learning Office; Associate Dean Academic; and Acting Associate Dean of Students for the past 6 months. He has participated in a variety of meetings of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges representing Augustana and the U of A. He has also volunteered in a variety of community organizations including a volunteer centre, an adult learning council and hospital and foundation boards. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the Edmonton river valley with his partner, children and dogs.
