E.H. Strickland Entomological Museum Virtual Tour
The Strickland Museum was started at the University of Alberta in 1922 by Col. Edgar Harold Strickland. The original collection contained research specimens that Strickland used to compile resources such as An annotated list of the Diptera (flies) of Alberta (1938) and an annotated list of the wasps of Alberta (1947). The museum now contains over 1 million specimens, including over 4,500 type specimens. The Strickland Museum houses several large collections assembled by avid amateur entomologists. Among others, the early collections of Frederick Stephen Carr (~100,000 specimens) and Kenneth Bowman (~13,000 species) contribute to the incredible biodiversity represented in this museum.
