Discovering UCAMA Archival Collections Online

In December 2020, over three hundred boxes of archival materials were transferred from the Ukrainian Canadian Archives and Museum of Alberta to the Bohdan Medwidsky Ukrainian Folklore Archives at the Kule Folklore Centre. These new arrivals became a challenge for the BMUFA in terms of the size and somewhat shifting thematic scope. Today, nearly one year later, over three dozen of the new UCAMA collections have been processed, incorporated into the BMUFA, and their descriptions made available online. In addition, hundreds of photographs have been digitized and are ready to be added to the online database. Everyone with the connection to the Internet from any part of the world can get acquainted with structured descriptions of the processed materials.
During the presentation, we will demonstrate how to search and find the archival materials in the BMUFA database. In addition, we will introduce the Ukrainian National Hall and Shevchenko Scientific Society in Edmonton collections in greater detail. These collections have been processed just recently and reveal sometimes unknown or hidden history of the two Ukrainian Canadian organizations. What can the changed colour of the UNH collection records tell us? Why does the UNH collection contain materials significantly preceding the establishment of the organization? And when did the Edmonton branch of the NTSh Canadian division emerge?
