The staff of the Kule Centre for Ukrainian and Canadian Folklore and the Bohdan Medwidsky Ukrainian Folklore Archives at the University of Alberta are pleased to welcome Dr. Jelena Pogosjan as our new Director.
Dr. Pogosjan has been a professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies (MLCS), U. of A. since 2002 and has served as Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies.
She received her M.A. (1992) and Ph.D. (1997) from the Department of Russian Literature at Tartu University, Estonia. She continued her research at the Laboratory of History and Semiotics at Tartu University, and taught folklore among other disciplines for over ten years at Tartu University.
Her primary areas of research interests include history of Iconostasis; official culture of the Russian Empire; and history of printed calendar. Dr. Pogosjan's CV and List of Publications can be viewed here.
