The Kule Folklore Centre was delighted to be an elite sponsor of the 55th National SUSK Congress that took place in Edmonton from May 9 - 12, 2013 hosted by Hosted by the University of Alberta Ukrainian Students' Society.
Andriy Nahachewsky, the Director of the Kule Folklore Centre, was the presenter for a Professional Seminar called "How can the Ukrainian Community Grow?" where he argued that building the Ukrainian community requires clarity about what kinds of elements should be promoted.
He also was one of the contributors and one of the judges in the "Case Study" where 8 teams competed for $1000 for the best proposal to promote Ukrainian studies in the future (4 teams dealt with K-12, and 4 teams dealt with Ukrainian studies at the university.)
Andriy was also the leader of a "Tanets' House" workshop on Saturday, May 11th. The conference participants experienced a new kind of Ukrainian dance activity, using old village dance forms and geared for participatory fun. The tanets' house took place in the lawn in front of St. John's Institute on Whyte Ave, and was really popular with the students. It was lots of fun!
