Join the Environmental Studies Students Association and Sustainability Council for a diverse panel event featuring speakers ranging from a youth voice, University of Alberta scholars, and Indigenous knowledge. This panel will discuss how we can understand environmentalism through an intersectional lens which takes into consideration age, race, culture, privilege, and more. This panel will take a critical approach to common understandings of sustainability and present alternative perspectives. You will leave this panel discussion with a deeper understanding of what it means to be an ‘environmentalist’ in your daily life and how you can incorporate intersectional environmentalism into your climate action.
Panel members:
- Chantel Akinneah – A Dene' Tha First Nation researcher at the University of Alberta, studying soil microbiomes and Indigenous land stewardship.
- Fatima Dhooma – An environmental studies student, nutrition coach, and blogger exploring sustainability and food sovereignty.
- Sofiyah Shariff – A Native Studies and Environmental Conservation student focused on decolonizing conservation and advocating for diversity in environmental sciences.
