Alicia Souveny
Edmonton Lecture: A physiotherapist's personal journey of rehab, recovery and resilience
Alicia is a U of A alumni, MScPT class of 2016. Since graduating, she has primarily worked in pediatrics and acute care but has also enjoyed working as a trainer for minor hockey teams in the city. She has always enjoyed sports and living an active lifestyle.
Following a life-changing car accident in 2019, Alicia found hersself on the other side of the physiotherapy table. Following her recovery, she rediscovered her passion for sports and has been playing Para ice hockey (sledge hockey) on the women’s Canadian national team since 2022. She is also the first Para hockey player ambassador for Hockey Gives Blood: a charitable organization raising awareness for blood donation amongst the hockey community.
In addition to working as a physiotherapist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Alison volunteers with Hockey Alberta on their EDI committee, participating in a consensus panel to help develop municipal best practice guidelines for disability inclusion in recreation and physical activity. Her dream is to help people of all ages and abilities find community and joy through accessible sports and recreation.

Allison Beveridge is a two-time Olympian from Calgary, Alberta. She raced with the Canadian track cycling national team for over 10 years, during which time she medalled at the Pan American, Commonwealth and Olympic Games; as well as at multiple world cups and world championships.
Alison also raced professionally on the road with her trade team Rally Pro Cycling for three years. After the Tokyo Olympics, she officially stepped away from the sport, finished her degree in exercise physiology from the University of Calgary and enrolled in the master of physiotherapy program at the University of Alberta, where she is now in her final year of studies at the Calgary campus.
