Reconsidering the origin of creativity: A review of the African data

There is evidence found across Europe that the brain’s capacity for creativity increased after homo sapiens migrated from Africa 80,000 years ago. However, this suggests a problematic view — one where this brain area didn’t increase for those that remained in Africa. Despite the fact that brain size is the same for all humans, this remains the standard view.
In this Lunch & Learn, Michael Omoge will challenge this view. By sharing his own hypothesis, Omoge will explore some conditions in Africa that would have led to developing the capacity for creativity.
About the Presenter
Michael Omoge is an assistant professor at the University of Alberta Augustana Campus where he works in the areas of philosophy and Black studies.
