National Indigenous Peoples Day with David A. Robertson

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and, Métis peoples. This year the Faculty of Education and Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta is thrilled to welcome children and educators onto our campus to celebrate with David A. Robertson. Please join us as we engage in Reconciliation in a welcoming and affirming space.

We are opening this event for the general public to attend virtually and there are two sessions on June 21, 2023 to choose from: 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. No school that day? No worries. Simply register for one of the sessions and you will still be sent the VIMEO link. You can share the recording with your classroom students up to 72 hours after the livestream event. 

This Augustana Indigenous Speaker Series event is presented by Cargill in partnership with the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre, the Augustana Campus and the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta.

David A. Robertson is a two-time winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award, the 2021 Canadian Children’s Author of the Year (The Globe and Mail), and winner of the Writers’ Union of Canada Freedom to Read Award. He is the author of the memoir Black Water (HarperCollins Canada), which won the Alexander Kennedy Isbister Award for Non-Fiction and the Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award, and numerous #1 bestselling books for young readers, including The Misewa Saga (Penguin Random House Canada), a middle grade fantasy series which began with The Barren Grounds, as well as the picture books On The Trapline and When We Were Alone. He is the writer and host of the award-winning podcast Kīwēw, a sought after speaker, and a beloved guest at literary festivals as well as on radio and television programs. The Theory of Crows is his first novel for adults. Robertson is a member of Norway House Cree Nation and currently lives in Winnipeg.
