Government of Alberta reintroduces public health measures starting on April 7
6 April 2021
Late this afternoon, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced that the province is reintroducing a series of Step 1 public health restrictions. As a result, starting Wednesday, April 7, the following provincial restrictions will also come into effect on our campuses:
- Only one-on-one training with an individual or household is permitted for indoor fitness activities. (At this time, this does not apply to varsity training activities.)
- Retail services must limit customer capacity to 15% of fire code occupancy (not including staff) or a minimum of 5 customers.
Starting on Friday, April 9, indoor in-person dining will be suspended and limited to pick-up or delivery only. Patio dining will be limited to household members only, or two close contacts of someone who lives alone. Further information for Lister residents will be provided tomorrow.
Please note that the reintroduced measures do not affect the current working remotely directive for U of A employees, and do not affect the limited individual study spaces available for booking in the Cameron Library Building. Employees and students are encouraged to make every effort to use remote university services whenever possible.
Today’s announcement also noted that the speed of Alberta’s vaccinations are expected to increase, as the province intends to inoculate at least 50% of Albertans by the end of May. While this is welcome news, how this may impact our U of A community will continue to be evaluated.
To each of you, thank you for all that you are doing to keep our community safe. Our shared patience and compassion will continue to carry us through this pandemic.
