Festival of Teaching and Learning Steering Committee
Terms of Reference, September 2023
- Mandate
The Festival of Teaching and Learning Steering Committee honours the University of Alberta’s commitment to excellence in teaching and learning through steering the planning of the annual Festival of Teaching and Learning, by:
- Exploring and identifying relevant themes focussed on teaching, learning, and diverse approaches to university teaching, with the goal of enhancing the teaching and learning environments across the institution;
- Envisioning engaging events such as workshops, presentations, and speakers, intended to share, demonstrate, explore, debate, and embody said themes;
- Acting as an advocate for the Festival of Teaching and Learning by promoting engagement and attendance among faculty, staff, and students.
- Committee Composition
To work towards ensuring diverse and equitable representation across the University of Alberta community, the Festival of Teaching and Learning Steering Committee, overseen by the Vice-Provost (Learning Initiatives), will yearly be comprised of at minimum five of the following:
- The Executive Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Chair
- The Vice-Provost (Indigenous Programming and Research), delegate
- The Vice-Provost (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), delegate
- Centre for Teaching and Learning, delegate
- An undergraduate student, selected by the President of the Students’ Union
- A graduate student, selected by the President of the Graduate Students’ Association
- Associate Dean, Education, from the College of Health Sciences
- Associate Dean, Education, from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Associate Dean, Education, from the College of Natural and Applied Sciences
- Associate Dean, Faculty of Native Studies, selected by the Faculty Dean
- Associate Dean, Campus Saint-Jean, selected by the Dean
- Associate Dean, Teaching, Augustana Faculty
- Associate Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, selected by the Dean
- Others as identified by the Vice-Provost (Learning Initiatives) to ensure a balance of knowledges, pedagogical approaches and lived experiences.
CTL will provide administrative support to the Committee.
The Festival of Teaching and Learning Steering Committee will meet as required.
