In The Birds, two men flee the modern world and attempt to settle in the fabled land of the birds, seeking freedom and a better way of life. With a new world revealed before them, the men are unable to resist remaking this paradise in their own image. This modern adaptation of Aristophanes' comedy explores contemporary Indigenous questions about truth and reconciliation.
Originally from the Northwest Territories, director Reneltta Arluk, who is of Inuvialuit, Dene, and Cree descent, is the first Indigenous woman to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts Acting degree from the University of Alberta. She is an actor, playwright, poet, director and producer, and has performed globally. Yvette Nolan is a playwright, director, actor, and educator. Nolan is the author of numerous celebrated plays and has been a writer-in-residence at institutions across Canada.
