FAB Gallery re-opens with Littoral Zone and Formed

The Fine Arts Building (FAB) Gallery re-opened to the public on September 1, 2020, with two new exhibits presented by MFA candidates Daniel Evans (Littoral Zone) and Selene Huff (Formed).

Daniel Evans is an MFA Printmaking student whose exhibit Littoral Zone incorporates a wide variety of multimedia platforms including 2D prints, virtual reality and other interactive pieces.

Littoral Zone takes a creative look at our data-driven and algorithmically automated world, translating personal data such as search histories, social media, purchases, location history and more into tangible works of art. After collecting the past five years worth’ of such data from his own personal digital footprint, Evans combined his background in traditional printmaking with self-taught programming skills to create multimedia works of art based on this data.

Selene Huff’s exhibit Formed features a variety of intricate metal sculptures, providing an abstract reflection of how Huff’s body moves through space and interacts with other physical entities.

Huff’s background as a journeyman welder equipped her with an advanced familiarity with the properties of steel, and how it can be shaped. Combining this with her BFA and MFA training as an artist, Huff created a series of compelling metal sculptures inspired by both the lineage of abstract steel sculpture work from the U of A, and her own personal history and experience with bodily forms and movement.

Both Littoral Zone and Formed run September 1 - 25, 2020, in FAB Gallery and can be viewed in person by appointment only. Visiting hours are Tuesday - Friday from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m., and can be scheduled by contacting FAB Gallery Manager Joshua Wade at 780-492-2081 or jwade1@ualberta.ca.
