Jana Grekul is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Director of the BA Criminology program. In addition to her work on Indigenous street and prison gangs, she recently collaborated on a Homeward Trust-funded project on housing issues faced by senior offenders, post-incarceration; a second project explored housing challenges and barriers facing Indigenous youth who are involved with the criminal justice system. A McCalla Professor, Jana has experimented with project-based learning in the department’s fourth-year Women and Crime course, engaging undergraduate students, graduate student teaching assistants, and community partners in developing actionable projects. She is in the early stages of a research project that examines women’s reintegration post-incarceration, with a focus on the experiences of Indigenous women. Jana served as board member during the creation of REACH Edmonton, and has served on the evaluation advisory boards for WrapEd and for the Uncles and Aunts at Large Strengthening Families program.
