It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Michelle Inness, PhD, will take on the role as the School's new Assistant Dean of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) effective July 1, 2020.
Dr. Inness is currently an associate professor of organizational behaviour within the Department of Strategic Management & Organization as well as the director of the School's Leadership Certificate Program for undergraduate students.
Originally from Halifax, Dr. Inness received her PhD from Queen's University where she graduated with a dual major in organizational behaviour and social psychology. She moved to Edmonton in 2005, where she joined the Alberta School of Business.
Dr. Inness' research is focused on a variety of topics including workplace aggression, positive organizational behaviour, as well as equity, diversity and inclusion; she has been published in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Her recent research on EDI is an interdisciplinary effort with other scholars at the University of Alberta and across Canada examining how organizational culture and implicit bias impacts women's careers in STEM professions.
Last year, the Alberta School of Business developed a strategic plan, which outlined the vision, values and core principles that will propel the School forward, advancing its profile and excellence. Key to this advancement is cultivating a community where equity and diversity are fundamental to inclusive excellence in learning, teaching, research, service and community engagement.
With her knowledge, experience and passion for EDI, Dr. Inness is ideally suited to fulfill the priorities outlined in the School strategic plan - to identify and promote practices and principles that celebrate equity, human rights, respect, and accountability among students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Inness on her new appointment as Assistant Dean, EDI.
