Royal Holloway, University of London

Location:

Surrey, United Kingdom

Introduction:

Bedford College, in London, opened its doors in 1849, and Royal Holloway College's stunning Founder's Building was unveiled by Queen Victoria in 1886 - and is still the focal point of the campus. In 1900, the two colleges became part of the University of London and in 1985 they merged to form what is now known as Royal Holloway. Today, as one of the UK's leading research-intensive universities, RHUL is home to some of the world's foremost authorities in the sciences, arts, business, economics and law. The university is also strengthened by its diversity, welcoming students and academics from all over the world, ensuring an international and multi-cultural perspective within a close-knit and historic campus. Royal Holloway has over 10,000 students, including approximately 2,000 from outside the European Union, with over 8,000 undergraduates. With the spectacular Founder's Building and famous Picture Gallery, RHUL's campus is frequently named as one of the most beautiful in the world. It's situated in 135 acres of parkland in Egham, Surrey, 19 miles from central London and seven miles from Heathrow Airport.

Comments:

"RHUL is a great opportunity to experience both rural and urban England. Some students may be disappointed to learn that the school is not right in the heart of London, but the quick train ride makes it easy to get into the city at any time. Coming from the U of A, RHUL's smaller campus and study body is also a breath of fresh air. Facilities at RHUL are all top-notch and the International Office does a great job from the very beginning of the term to bring the exchange students together."

"I was very pleased with how my exchange experience went - it was a phenomenal experience, and was absolutely worthwhile. I would highly recommend both the exchange experience and the Royal Holloway University of London to any other student looking to go on an exchange."
