About the Exhibit
The Idiot Box is an exhibition of oil and acrylic painting, drawing, video and sculpture. The work uses imaginary figurative characters that are seeping with slime and bulging with fleshy phallic protrusions. The works juxtapose vulgarity and politeness, disgust and beauty, awkwardness and refinement, and low-brow pop-culture nostalgia with European painting traditions. The artist uses these to question their own position in the fine arts as a fan of both low-brow visual culture, and the European traditions of fine art.
