Comparative Literature Non-degree Program Guide

"Comparative" is our code word for "expansion of horizons." Why study just American novels, when you can match it up with a little extra from Japan? Or only English poetry, when you can add a bit of Spanish, too? And it is not just languages. Why not work on classic Greek drama and Hollywood blockbusters at the same time? Sounds far-fetched? Well, that's exactly the point!

This flexible minor program perfectly compliments any Faculty of Arts degrees that focus on interacting with and interpreting texts, creative writing, analyzing literature and its authors, and much more.

Academic Requirements for Comparative Literature Minor students

  • A minor in Comparative Literature requires at least 12 units in senior-level C LIT courses with a minimum of 6 units at the 300 or 400-level in C LIT or approved cross-listed courses. For more information, please visit the department website.

The University of Alberta Calendar will always contain the most up-to-date degree requirements for your program, and your requirements are determined by the calendar year you were admitted in.
