Bachelor of Arts in Ancient and Medieval Studies Degree Program Guide
This interdisciplinary program allows students to explore past societies in the pre-modern period. You can take courses in Anthropology, Classics, East Asian Studies, English, History, Philosophy, Scandinavian Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies to explore the peoples, places, and cultures of the Islamic world in the Golden Age, Greco-Roman antiquity and an emerging Europe, as well as ancient and medieval Africa, India and Asia.
Academic Requirements for Ancient and Medieval Studies Majors
- Students are required to complete a minimum of 30 units to a maximum of 48 units at the senior level, chosen from a list of cross-listed courses. Consult the History, Classics, and Religion website for a current list of approved cross-listed courses
- INT D 205 - Introduction to Ancient and Medieval Studies
- 6 units earned from 400-level courses are required
- 6 units from your choice of language relevant to Ancient and Medieval Studies (Arabic, Classical Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Old Norse, or Sanskrit) are required
- Consult the program website for a current list of approved courses that meet the language requirement
- Students may not count more than 12 units from any one course designation (i.e., HIST) toward the required credits for the major
- Students are strongly encouraged to pursue temporal, geographic, and disciplinary diversity in their coursework
Academic Requirements for Ancient and Medieval Studies Minors
- A minimum of 18 units at the senior level chosen from a list of cross-listed courses, including:
- 3 units in INT D 205
- 3 units at the 400-level
