On Thursday, September 28, the University of Alberta community gathered to honour the achievements of faculty, students and staff atCelebrate! Teaching.Learning.Research.
The annual event celebrates outstanding individuals at UAlberta - from faculty who bring their research to life in the classroom; graduate and undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves in their academic and extracurricular endeavours; and finally, to staff who support research and learning at every level.
Once again, the Faculty of Arts was strongly represented at the event, with one outstanding individual - Janine Brodie - receiving the University of Alberta's highest honour bestowed on a member of the academic staff, the University Cup.
Janine Brodie is a Distinguished University Professor and a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Political Economy and Social Governance in the Department of Political Science. Her research encompasses the core challenges in Canadian politics and political economy, including gender politics, social policy, citizenship equality, globalization and neoliberal governance.
Earlier this year, a festschrift was held in her honour in recognition of four decades of remarkable scholarly achievement.
In reaching across the entire University of Alberta community, the Celebrate! Teaching.Learning.Research event truly echoes the words of Henry Marshall Tory, the founding president of the University of Alberta: "The people demand that knowledge shall not be the concern of scholars alone. The uplifting of the whole people shall be its final goal."
Congratulations to all our deserving recipients!
