Dr. Andrew Shaw, Chair, is delighted to announce the appointment of the following physicians to their respective leadership roles in the Edmonton Zone Clinical Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine:

Deputy Zone Clinical Department Head (Clinical Affairs and Wellness)

In accordance with the AHS medical staff bylaws and rules, and after a thorough search and select process, Dr. Neil Klassen has been appointed to the post of Deputy Zone Clinical Department Head (Clinical Affairs and Wellness). Dr. Klassen will assume responsibility for the Clinical Affairs and Wellness portfolio effective January 1st, 2019. In this role he will be responsible for maintaining clinical standards across all anesthetizing locations in the Edmonton Zone. He will assist the site chiefs in their roles of guaranteeing world-class anesthesia care for Albertans, and will report directly to the ZCDH, Dr. Shaw. He will also develop a Wellness program for our clinicians, with an emphasis on work-life balance, such that we are able to take care of our people as well as we take care of our patients. University of Alberta Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Assistant Chair (Education)

Please congratulate Dr. Saifee Rashiq on his appointment as Assistant Chair (Education) in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Alberta. In this new role Dr. Rashiq will be responsible for all aspects of the Department's education portfolio, including our lifelong learning (CME/CPD), postgraduate (resident / fellow) and undergraduate (medical student) programs. He will provide support and assistance to our outstanding education leadership team of Drs. Heather Ting, Carolyn Hui, Liza Noonan and Kelsey Rutten, and will expand and develop our lifelong learning program. Please congratulate him on this new appointment when you next see him.

Facility Chief, Anesthesiology, Misericordia Community Hospital

Dr. Bob Black and Dr. Andrew Shaw are delighted to announce that in accordance with both AHS and Covenant Health medical staff bylaws and rules, and after a thorough search and select process, Dr. William Flexer will be taking on the role of Facility Chief, Anesthesia at the Misericordia Community Hospital effective January 1, 2019. Our genuine appreciation goes out to Dr. Dorothy Hardy for her Medical Leadership service at Covenant Health over the past 3 years. Please thank Dr. Hardy for her dedication to the Department of Anesthesia at MCH and wish her all the best as she continues her clinical practice at the Misericordia. Please also congratulate Dr. Flexer on his successful appointment when you next see him.

Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Chronic Pain Clinic

In order to focus on his new role as Associate Chair, Education, Dr. Saifee Rashiq is stepping aside from his role as Chief, Chronic Pain Service. I am pleased to announce that Dr. Jabu Moyo has agreed to assume this role on an interim basis, in order to permit a thorough search and select process to find a permanent successor for Dr. Rashiq. Please congratulate and thank Dr. Moyo for agreeing to assume this role, effective January 1st 2019, while we find a new Chief for Chronic Pain.
