Are you ready? The team promotes camper growth, learning, and capacity-building - previous volunteers described their camp experience as both joyful and exhausting! An ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced leader who has the ability to multitask and pitch in, while also remaining aware and able to prioritize their own needs and stay healthy during Camp!
Applications: Be as accurate and thorough as you can with your application. It’s our first chance to get to know you!
Training: We provide comprehensive pre-camp training for skill development, getting to know each other, and camp operation. Training will be a blend virtual and in-person sessions scheduled for July 13th and 14th, 2024 .
Community Guidelines: All volunteers commit to following and upholding Camp fYrefly Community Guidelines. Any updates or site-specific additions will be included in the registration information.
Diversity: We are committed to diversity and representation at Camp. Because these identities are often underrepresented, we especially welcome applications from queer people of colour, Two-Spirit and/or Indigenous people, people with disabilities, and trans-feminine people.
Registration: Applicants who are selected will be emailed a detailed registration package with information on travel, meals, accommodation, and a list of health, dietary, legal, media consent, and Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector) requirements.
Dates / Timelines: Application due dates vary by position. We don’t want to miss you, so please double check!Join Us Next Time: We love reading the applications, and are often overwhelmed by the commitment, diversity, and experience and skill level of our applicants. Volunteer Coordinator Application
The Volunteer Coordinator will organize Camp fYrefly volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds. You will work closely with camp staff and volunteer to ensure that volunteers are properly integrated into the camp's operations and that they have a fulfilling and impactful experience. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills, as well as a passion for working with youth and volunteers. Other Requirements:
- Attend mandatory virtual and in-person training (Dates TBD, weekend in July)
- Attend Camp (July 25 - 28, 2024; first day without campers);
- Follow and ensure compliance with Community Guidelines
- Generally helping out when in-person (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space)
Interviews: After applications are reviewed by Camp staff, all applicants will be either invited to an interview or notified they have not been selected.

Health Lead + Team Applications
Role Description
The Health Team (HT) supports the health and wellbeing of participants at Camp fYrefly. Volunteers are available to help campers navigate challenges and to direct them to relevant resources in their local community.
We’re looking for people who have experience providing mental or physical healthcare, including social workers, psychologists, counsellors, youth support workers, nurses, physicians, and other health professionals. In addition, it’s important our team members have experience with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and ideally also supporting young people.
Health Team LEAD
Working with the Camp Coordinator, the HT Lead will work to develop a Camp Health Plan. Other requirements include:
- Assist in selecting Health Team members
- In Person - Approximately 15 hours prep time (includes planning meetings and training) as well as joining on location for the full duration of Camp (July 25 - 28, 2024; first day without campers), and debrief
- Online - Approximately 30 hours, including training, planning, camp and debrief
- Following and ensuring compliance with Community Guidelines
- Documenting and reporting incidents; external referrals
- General labour when in-person (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space
Health Team Volunteer
Working with the Camp Coordinator and the HT Lead, HT volunteers will respond and provide support for campers. Other requirements include:
- In Person - Joining on location for the full duration of Camp (July 25 - 28, 2024; first day without campers), 8-12 hours of training, and additional volunteer hours for planning and debrief
- In-Person (medical health) - provide First Aid, assist with med delivery (if needed), consult
- Online - Approximately 15 hours, including training, planning, camp and debrief
- Following and ensuring compliance with Community Guidelines
- Documenting and reporting incidents; referrals to outside services
- General labour when in-person (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space)
Optional Honourarium HT volunteers are eligible to receive a $300 honouraria and the HT Lead may receive a $1000 honoraria (payable at the end of the month after Camp). More information will be included in the registration package. Applications are reviewed by Camp staff; all applicants will be either invited to an interview or notified they have not been selected.

Knowledge Keeper-in-Residence Conversations Open: February 2024

Role Description
The Knowledge Keeper-in-Residence (KKIR) plays a critical role at Camp fYrefly supporting the overall wellness of campers and volunteers. Working with the Camp Coordinator, the KKIR assists in the creation of a program that promotes Indigenous history and culture as it relates to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous campers and volunteers. In the case that one person is not able to attend all of Camp or would like to offer a specific teaching or contribution, we're open to working with more than one person to achieve the outcomes above. Other requirements include:
- Attending pre-camp planning sessions;
- Participating virtually and/or in-person at training;
- Attending in-person Camp (July 25 - 28, 2024; first day without campers);
- Following and ensuring compliance with Community Guidelines;
- Documenting and reporting incidents as necessary (training provided); Health Team referrals.
Camp fYrefly acknowledges the rich diversity of language, history, and culture within each of the Treaty areas, traditional territories, and communities. We respect the lived experiences of all Knowledge Keepers and/or all Elders who apply. We will prioritize persons who have experience providing mental health support, working with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and working with young people. Preference will be given to Two-Spirit applicants and those within the Greater Edmonton Area.

Role Description
We’re looking for either emerging or established artists who have experience working with youth, are interested in and open to using alternative media (both in art and in program delivery), and demonstrated leadership experience.
The Artist in Residence (AIR) will work with our fYrefly team to deliver a range of art-based content for Camp fYrefly participants. The AIR will have demonstrated a commitment to innovation, exploration, community outreach, and the public understanding of 2SLGBTQ+ experiences and identities.
Working with the Camp Coordinator, the AIR will coordinate the development and execution of arts-based programming for Camp fYrefly. Other Requirements include:
- In Person - Approximately 15 hours prep time (includes planning meetings and training) as well as joining on location for the full duration of Camp (July 25 - 28, 2024; first day without campers), and debrief
- Online - Approximately 30 hours of volunteer time, including training, planning, camp, and debrief
- Coordinating a youth showcase at Camp (in the case of both in-person or online delivery)
- Following and ensuring compliance with Community Guidelines
- Documenting and reporting incidents (training provided); Health Team referrals
Optional Honouraria: The AIR will receive an honouraria of $1000.00 (payable at the end of the month after Camp). More information will be included in the registration package.

Role Description
Youth Leaders (YLs) are group (pod) leaders and the primary point of contact for campers. YLs guide the pod through activities, workshops, free-time and transition times, and help make decisions for their group. They build skills in mentorship, communication, and working with youth. Other requirements include:
- Between the ages of 18 - 24 on July 26, 2024
- Attend mandatory virtual and in-person training (Dates TBD, weekend in July)
- Attend Camp (July 25 - 28, 2024; first night will be volunteers only)
- Follow and ensure compliance with Community Guidelines
- Document and reporting incidents (training provided); Health Team referrals
- Generally helping out when in-person (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space)
Optional Honourarium: Youth Leaders are eligible to receive an optional honouraria of up to $400.00 (payable at the end of the month after Camp). More information will be included in the registration package.

Role Description
Adult Volunteers (AVs) serve as intergenerational role models and resources for both Youth Leaders and Campers. AVs provide guidance at group (pod) meetings, meals, special events, workshops, and free time. Many AVs also run programming and workshops of their own, or lead activities during free-time. They build skills in mentorship, communication, and working with youth. Other requirements include:
- 25 years or older by the start of Camp
- Attend mandatory virtual and in-person training (Dates TBD, weekend in July)
- Attend Camp (July 25 - 28, 2024; first day without campers);
- Follow and ensure compliance with Community Guidelines
- Document and report incidents (training provided); Health Team referrals
- Generally helping out when in-person (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space)
Optional Honourarium: Adult Volunteers are eligible to receive an honouraria of up to $150.00 (payable at the end of the month after Camp). More information will be included in the registration package.
Interviews: After applications are reviewed by Camp staff, all applicants will be either invited to an interview or notified they have not been selected.

Workshop Presenter Application
Role Description
Presenters bring personal and/or professional experiences to Camp that help equip youth with tools for empowerment and change-making in their own communities and also address tools for coping and finding supports.Workshops are presented by individuals, groups or organizations that have experience with and value 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and are excited to share their content with the Camp community.
Content: Presentations provide a range of content, whether it is queer identities, social justice, navigating systems, understanding oppression, or building community. Content is delivered through different media including (but not limited to) arts-based, presentation, storytelling, break-out groups, panels, etc.
Optional Gift Card: Groups or presenters are eligible to receive an optional gift card of up to $100.00 (payable the week after Camp) per presentation as a thank you for volunteering.
