Service Availability Notice
There is a high demand for counselling services during the academic year, which may result in increased wait times for some services. Note that undergraduate students may also access service through Empower Me, and graduate students may access Homewood Health.
Welcome to Counselling + Clinical Services
Get help with your mental health. Counselling & Clinical Services helps students like you tackle anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, grief, trauma and more. We offer therapy, group therapy, workshops, psychiatric services, consultations and referrals. We have a diverse team of psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, clinical social workers and student clinicians who are dedicated to providing inclusive, compassionate and affirming care. Our services are free and confidential.
Urgent + Crisis Situations
If you or someone you know is in crisis and at risk of immediate harm to self or others, call 911.
Additional available supports include:

Services Offered
For Students
University of Alberta students who are currently registered in part-time or full-time studies are eligible for service. This includes International Visiting students. Open Studies students are not eligible, unless they are in the ESL program, Transition Year Program, or Fresh Start.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy can be helpful for anyone wanting to improve their mental health. We offer both short-term and one-at-a-time therapy.
CCS is not meant for crisis situations.
Psychiatry Services
Psychiatrists can provide assessment, diagnosis and medication for students struggling with more complex mental health concerns. A referral by a physician is required.
Group Therapy
Group therapy lets you connect with other students going through similar challenges in a safe, confidential space. Learn strategies, gain perspective and find support. All groups are led by psychologists.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy can help partners better connect by addressing a wide variety of relationship issues. Service is available to any couples where at least one person is a student.
Mental Health Workshops
Attend an online workshop to gain knowledge and learn strategies to deal with a variety of mental health topics including mood, anxiety, assertiveness, perfectionism and ADHD.
Workshops are also open to staff and faculty.

Staff and faculty seeking counselling can access the Employee and Family Assistance Program.
Services for Faculty + Staff Supporting Students
Staff and faculty can consult with CCS for support and guidance on how to help students who are struggling with their mental health.
